How to Make Traditional Kuih : 9 Layer Cake / Kuih Lapis

This layered cake is very tasty with the sweet taste of coconut milk. The cake is fragrant and soft. A layered cake that is really made, we must be able to pull the layers one by one when eating.

It’s easy to prepare the mixture, but the cooking effort is a little more because we have to steam it layer by layer. But the result is worth standing in front of the steamer for a long time. This recipe is also suitable for business.

Pan: 7×7 inches or 8×8 inches

**Each layer of Che Nom measures about 3/4 cup

Ingredients:

  • Layer cake ingredients:
    • 2 cwn rice flour
    • ½ cwn wheat flour
    • ½ cwn corn flour
    • 1 box of coconut milk
    • 3 cwn water
    • 1 cwn sugar
    • 1 teaspoon of salt
    • 2 pandan leaves
    • 1 teaspoon red food coloring

How to Prepare:

  1. Methods for Sweet Fat Layer Cake:
    1. Grease a baking sheet with oil and line it with plastic.
    2. There is also oil on the plastic surface.
    3. In a bowl, add rice flour, wheat flour, corn flour, and salt. Mix together all the ingredients.
    4. Cook sugar with water along with knots of pandan leaves.
    5. Pour the mixture of coconut milk and water into the pandan sugar water and mix well.
    6. Add the coconut milk mixture and sugar water into the flour mixture little by little. Stir slowly until it dissolves evenly.
    7. After stirring evenly, sift the flour mixture.
    8. Divide the mixture into two parts.
    9. Add a mixture with red coloring or syrup essence.
    10. Steam the mixture alternately according to color for 5-7 minutes. For example, steam the white layer first and then the red layer.
    11. Repeat until the mixture is finished.
    12. For the final layer, steam for 10 minutes.
    13. Cool and remove the layer cake from the pan.
    14. Then, cut the cake into 8 or 16 parts and the sweet fat layered cake is ready to serve.
